Measuring and Ordering Guide - Draperies

Order in 4 easy steps

Step 1. Select single panel or pair:

Inside MountSINGLE PANEL
  • One individual panel
  • Choose from left panel, right panel, or center panel
PAIR OF DRAPERY
  • Two equal panels (1 right, 1 left)

Step 2. Select Total Width Coverage:
  • Measure the width of the area you would like to cover. This is your ordering width – fullness is already accounted for. ADD GRAPHIC FROM” MEASURING GUIDE FOR DRAPES” HOW TO MEASURE FOR DRAPES SHOWING A WINDOW AND MEASUREMENTS “A” THROUGH “F”

TIPS:

  • We recommend whenever possible to extend out from the edges of your windows or doors as much as 6”- 12” on each side. This will help make the area look larger, allowing as much natural light as possible to fill your space when the drapery is open.
  • If ordering drapery that does not need to close (stationary panels), you can consider ordering a drapery with less coverage while still getting a finished, professional look. Contact our experts for advise: drapedindetails@gmail.com or call us at 203-522-4646
Step 3. Select finished length:
  • Measure the desired length of your drapery. The finished length you supply us is the exact measurement the drapery will be made to. We recommend that you mount your drapery at least 4” above the window frame. This will give you a more dramatic finished look and help enhance your ceiling height. It will also keep rings and grommets well above the window trim.

  • For a more traditional approach, select floor-length draperies that will keep the drapery approximately ½” off the floor. Use this length if you plan on opening and closing the draperies regularly.
  • For a look that is very popular today, consider the Trouser Break which allows a three inch break on the floor.
  • For a ball-gown presentation, the most formal of looks, puddle your draperies with an additional eight inches in length so the draperies spill on to the floor. Puddling adds opulence and style to your draperies and is recommended for stationary panels only.
  • When finalizing Grommet drapery length, the top of the drapery will be approximately 1” higher than the grommet opening. We also recommend that you add 4” to the finished length so the grommet openings are well above the glass area.
  • When finalizing rod pocket drapery length; please note that the length you order includes a 3” pocket for your rod and there is usually a 1”to 2” take up as you gather the fabric on to the pole.
  • For a tailored look, you may want to consider returning your draperies to the wall (see picture below). “Returns” are the far outside edges of the drapery panel which wrap around from the face of the drapery to the wall at a 90 degree angle. Our standard return is 3 ½”. If you need a deeper return, contact us at 203-522-4646
  • Please bear in mind that we use some of the finest materials available to create your custom draperies. As with all fabrics made of natural fibers there might be slight changes in length due to a number of variables including but not limited to: humidity, temperature and moisture. This is to be considered normal. If this is a concern, consider an ordering length with a small puddle.
Step 4. Select lining option:
Lining refers to a fabric which is sewn to the back of the drapery to protect it from the sun, improve insulation, and add body. Lining (s) also provide privacy by reducing the amount of light that travels through the drapery. All linings are available in white and off white color. We will make the determination of which color to use when you select your fabric and place your order.
