Thank you for purchasing from Draped in Details.  Simply follow our step-by-step instructions, and your beautiful new draperies will soon be enhancing your home or work space for many years to come.

Getting Started
Please read through all instructions before you begin installation.

  1. With your rod already installed, insert the drapery pins through the eyelets or rings that you have selected.  Then pinch the pins closed to prevent their falling off the eyelets or rings.  Slide the rings with the drapery panels onto the rod.
  2. Once you have placed the drapery onto the rod, let the panels hang.  Check for floor clearance or desired puddle before continuing.
  3. Begin to break the buckram (buckram is the stiffener sewn into the top header of the drapery behind the pleats) following the sketch below.  This will allow the drapery to stack properly and help form the folds.
  4. Repeat the same for all other panels.
  5. Installing optional returns
    1. Installing returns at the outside ends of your drapery allows the last 4” or 6” of fabric beyond the last pleat to return back to the wall.  You can affix the return to the wall by hooking a drapery pin to the back side of the panel and then place a small screw in the wall at the same height.  Attach the pin to the screw.  This will keep the return in place.  Some wall brackets allow for pinning the returns to them, check there first.
    2. You can also use a staple gun to fasten the return to the wall.
DRESSING YOUR PLEATED DRAPERY

All of our draperies are hand pressed prior to shipping, however due to transit, some additional wrinkling may occur.  Prior to hanging your draperies, you may want to lay them out and gently iron them on the lining side with a warm iron.  If you have a hand held steamer, you can steam your draperies once they have been hung.  Be sure to cover the top of the steamer with a sneaker sock to prevent water droplets from staining the fabric.
Once your draperies have been installed, most wrinkles and or creases will hang out on their own.
Please keep in mind that silks and linens will characteristically have wrinkles regardless of steaming or pressing.

ADJUSTMENTS
Once your drapery is hung, and if you need to make an adjustment to the height of the drapery, you can drop or raise the drapery pins +/- 1” to make the drapery longer or shorter.  If further adjustments are needed you may need to adjust your rod height.

CARE AND CLEANING
If your drapery becomes soiled, simply vacuum over the panels using low suction and using an upholstery attachment.  We recommend also taking the draperies down if necessary and hang them outside on a sunny breezy day to air out.  For a more thorough cleaning, we recommend contacting a professional cleaning company.
